Joel 2:28
"And it shall come to pass afterward, I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophecy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions."
On the day of Pentecost, the believers were assembled. There was a great rushing wind and cloven tongues of fire set on each of them. (Acts 2:3)
The "Comforter", the "Teacher", the Spirit of Jesus, the Holy Spirit is a gift available for the asking. He has come to bring you into a relationship with the Father and the Son. A close and personal relationship filled with joy and peace that is so intense that there are not words adequate enough to describe it. A peace that is beyond all understanding, sustaining you even in the middle of the storms of life.
Jesus, when the storm arose on the sea and the disciples were afraid for their lives, was sleeping in the boat. The storm didn't bother him because he knew he was going to make it over to the other side of the sea. When the disciples awoke him, he said to the wind and the sea, "Peace be still". I am convinced that the only reason Jesus calmed the storm was for the sake of the disciples, the storm didn't trouble him. The Holy Spirit gives you confidence toward God. If there's one thing the church needs it's confidence.
By the Holy Spirit, you become one with God, sealed unto the day of redemption. (Ephesians 4:30) Your name is written in the Lambs book of life. "I in them and thou in me, that they (you) may (will) be perfect in one". (John 17:23) By this baptism of the Holy Spirit, the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts . You become an avenue of the love and peace of Jesus. That's the fishing hook that Jesus cast into the world. He causes you to look past the faults of others, knowing that Jesus simply had mercy on you and without his grace, you can't make it.
Some think that the Holy Spirit is there only to give the believer power to cast out devils, heal the sick and speak in tongues. Jesus is interested in every part of your life. Jesus said, "Take no thought (Worry) for your life, what you shall eat, or what you shall drink, or what you shall wear." Jesus says, "Your Heavenly Father knows you have need of all these things. Seek you first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." (Matthew 6:31-33)
The Holy Spirit will even help you on your job. Really? Oh yes. "By the Spirit of God, Bez-a-leel was filled with wisdom and knowledge in all kinds of workmanship." (Exodus 31:3)
The Spirit of Jesus works miracles in your life. In 2nd Kings 2:2 we read, "And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. Elisha said, I pray thee (desire) let a double portion of thy Spirit be upon me." Let me encourage you. Miracles were common place with the disciples. Wherever they went, miracles took place and not just with the original Apostles either. The miracle working power of the Holy Spirit should be just as common in the lives of the believer today. Jesus said, "These signs shall follow the believer, in my name shall they cast out devils, they shall speak with new tongues, they shall take up serpents (Overthrow the works of the devil), and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them, they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. (Mark 16:17-18)
"Elisha took up also the mantle of Elijah, that fell from him, and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan (River), and he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote (Hit) the waters and they parted in two, and Elisha went over." 2nd Kings 2:13-14 Elisha said, "Let me try this out. It worked for Elijah, it has to work for me." God is no respecter of person. Elisha got his double portion of the Holy Ghost and you can too. Its about time the body of Christ woke up and walked in the fullness and glory of the Spirit. We've been asleep long enough. Jesus won't force the blessings of God on you; you have to receive it.
There are many knowledgeable people in the world. They are knowledgeable in the same manner that the Pharisees were knowledgeable. The Pharisees believed in the miraculous, but they did not believe in the grace of God, rather they trusted in their own good deeds as the path to gain entrance into the gates of Heaven. They believed you must keep the Law of Moses. We have Pharisees in the church today that believe the same thing. But Peter said in Acts 15:11 concerning this matter, "But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved."
In the third Chapter of John, Nicodemus, a Rabbi of Israel came to Jesus, because he saw the miracles. He was a morally good man; he kept the Law of Moses. What was wrong with his life? He needed to have an experience with Jesus; He needed to be born again.
You don't have to be a self righteous "Holier than thou" person to receive from Jesus. Rather you must be just the opposite. God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. "Thus says the Lord of hosts, Execute true judgment, and show mercy and compassion to every man to his brother." (Zechariah 7:9) The Lord is saying that showing mercy is true or Godly judgment.
At the Well of Jacob, Jesus being wearied from his journey sat on the well. A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that says, give to me to drink, you would have asked and he would have given you living water."
Jesus also said to her, "But whosoever drinks of the water I shall give them, shall never thirst, but the water I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."
Jesus knew this woman's background. She had five husbands in the past and was presently with one that wasn't her husband. Jesus offered to this woman and the man she was staying with, Salvation and the Holy ghost. Jesus said, "Go call thy husband and come here." (John 4:16)
In Romans 8:16 we read, "The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God." We are the children of God not because the "Word" says so, but because the Spirit bears witness with our Spirit. The Pharisees professed that God was their father and Jesus said, "If God were your father, you would love me." (John 8:42) Jesus also said, "he that is of God hears God's words: you do not hear them because you are not of God. ( John 8:47)
Let me say this, if the Spirit of God isn't bearing witness with you, you need to be saved. It is not Religion that will save you. Your works cannot save you. The Ten Commandments can not save you. Only Jesus can. You may not understand everything, but that's alright. Come to Jesus the way you are and ask him to save you and forgive you from trying to earn what he freely gives. Tell him you want to trade your religion for his Salvation and your misery for his joy. Ask him to fill you with his Holy Spirit. You will them embark on an eternal journey, hand in hand with Jesus Christ.
The keeping power of the Holy Spirit keeps you from being tossed to and fro with every wind of doctrine. It keeps you from running down to the alter week after week because you had an evil thought. I get evil thoughts too but I'm still saved.
"The trees of the Lord are full of sap; the Cedars of Lebanon, whom he has planted." (Psalms 104:16) Sap is the life giving force that makes that tree bring forth fruit. God has to plant you in the Kingdom. Some of you just joined a church and that's why there's no sap flowing through you. Here's an interesting fact about Cedar trees; no parasite can fasten itself to a Cedar tree. Did you hear me? Let me say that again, no parasite can fasten itself to a Cedar tree!
Devil get out of my way!
There's something about the aroma that the parasites can't stand being around it. When you praise the Lord, you set off an aroma that goes up into the nostrils of God, a sweet smelling savor, that gets the Lord's attention. It also signals to the devil that he'd better pack his bags and get the next train out of here! Amen!
Did you know that you are a child of promise just like Isaac is a child of promise? A child of promise has a right to the inheritance. Through Jesus you can enter into God's Promised land. I'm talking about in this life. Just like in Canaan's land there were "Walled Cities." The children of Israel circled the city of Jericho seven days, bearing the Ark of the Covenant. (A foreshadow of Jesus) On the seventh day they blew the trumpets and shouted. The walls of Jericho came down and they had the victory.
Do you know what "seven" stands for in the Bible? It stands for God's rest. (On the seventh day God rested.) Take hold of the promises of God and enter into his rest. You may have a "Walled City" around your finances or you health that your have to do battle with. Cancer , Diabetes, Arthritis, Aids, whatever the wall, take hold of the promise and enter into God's rest. The walls have to come down, In Jesus' name! Start shouting the victory even before you see it.
In John17:11 Jesus said, "and now I am no longer in the world, and I come to thee." Jesus said that through the eyes of faith before he was crucified and raised from the dead.
"And this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us, and if he hears us, whatsoever we ask we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him." (1st John 15-16)
As Paul was journeying to Ephesus he came upon certain disciples. In Acts 19:2 he asks, "Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed?" They said unto him, "We have not so much as heard whether there is any Holy Ghost." And he said unto them, "Unto what then were you baptized?" And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, "John truly baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on him which should come after himself that is, on Christ Jesus." When they heard this they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul laid his hands on them the Holy Ghost came on them and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.
Some of you have never heard of the baptism in the Holy Ghost, simply because your church never taught it or didn't believe it themselves. Well Jesus believes it and taught it and if he's your Lord, you should listen to him. The anointing of the Holy Ghost is the only way to be born of God. Jesus told the apostles in Acts 1:8, "But you shall receive power after the Holy Ghost has come upon you". This is the same anointing that Jesus wants you to have. For all of you who desire the baptism of the Holy Spirit, you can receive it now.
In the name of Jesus, receive the Holy Spirit. Lord Jesus, confirm your word with signs and wonders. Amen!
